Nicephore Niepce

Nicephore Niepce is famous for creating the first still photograph in 1827 which he called a heliograph. This photo is believed to be of the courtyard outside of his house. He exposed the plates of his camera for eight hours to make this photo. His picture has been on display in a sealed inclosure at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center in Austin Texas since 2003.
