Last Day Reflections

This semester in photography I learned about photo compositions, different types of lighting, different cameras, how to edit photos in photoshop, how to use a film camera, and how to develop film and print photos in the dark room. I had no idea what the process for printing photos was. Although it was really difficult to develop the film, I really enjoyed the whole process. I also enjoyed learning about photoshop. I didn't know that there were so many different tools or that you could digitally alter a photo so much. This semester I learned that I am not very good with technology. I struggled with photoshop a lot, but I have conquered many of my struggles with it. I know that the computer was having problems some of the time, so I don't know how many of my struggles were caused by the computer and how many were really me, but I know that I really am clueless when it comes to technology. Through the different projects I also learned what kinds of things I enjoy taking pictures of. I really enjoyed the tilt shift project and the portraits, and I like to capture nature in my pictures. I also learned that I like simplicity in photos. I wish that we would have spent more time in the dark room printing photos because that was my favorite part! I also wish that there would have been a project on nature. I wish that we would have had more time for the projects, but it is only a semester class, and there was a lot to fit in. I'm glad that we did all of the projects that we did because I learned a lot from each and every one of them. I really enjoyed the whole experience of this class and learning about photography.

Light Photos

It's kind of hard to tell that this is a picture of a a person dancing, but I liked how the hair was really crazy and kind of blurred.

When doing the light project, I had some trouble doing the silhouette pictures. I tried using a flashlight, and it created uneven light, too much light directly behind the subject of the photo or not enough light to see the outline of the subject. I found that it worked best around sunset, but the sun was actually in the background of some of my pictures which created a large washed out spot when I changed the photos to black and white. The direct light photos worked better with a flashlight, but if the light shined directly onto the subject of the photo, than it sometimes caused a large washed out spot too.

Portraits

The above pictures are of my mom. They were taken in our back yard in the fall. I chose my mom because she was willing to let me take pictures of her.

This photo is of my dad. I took this picture in our kitchen while he was making dinner. I took this picture because he was didn't want me to take pictures of him, so he looked a little mad when I did.

I took this picture of my sister in the kitchen one afternoon. I took this picture because she is always making different facial expressions, so I knew that i could get some good pictures of her.

This picture is of one of my friends. I took this on the bus on the way home from school one day. I took this picture because he hates it when people take pictures of him, so he makes a lot of facial expressions.
